Baking your own Cheesy Vegan Croutons at home couldn’t be easier. They are so delicious and the perfect way to top off your salads. I occasionally like to toss a couple on top of my creamy soups as well and the kids love just snacking on them!
Easy Homemade Cheesy Vegan Croutons
When making croutons I usually use either a loaf of French or Italian bread from the bakery department of our grocery store. Most crusty bread types will work, sourdough is also a tasty choice. While you can leave the bread out on the counter to harden up for a day or two it’s certainly not a necessity.
When cutting the loaf it’s important to make sure the pieces are as uniform as possible so they bake evenly. Once the bread is ready drizzle the oil over the chunks and sprinkle the seasonings. It will coat the bread more evenly if you do this, rather than just pouring it all in one spot and trying to mix. You can do this in a large bowl or directly on your baking sheet if you want to wash less dishes. (Always a win on busy nights!)
Bake your croutons at 400ยฐ for about 15 minutes. This may vary depending on the size of your croutons, type of bread you use and your oven.
This recipe calls for a whole loaf of bread but you can easily reduce the ingredients to make a smaller portion. I prefer to make a whole loaf when I know salads will be on our weekly menu. The croutons will stay nice and crispy in an airtight jar for 4-5 days.
These Cheesy Vegan Croutons are the perfect topping to any salad! They’re crunchy, cheesy and flavorful. I hope you enjoy them as much as we do!
